Once again, NATO and the western powers accuse Pakistan of conspiring with the Taliban to destabilize Afghanistan. Alleged leaked documents claim, once again, that ISI and Pakistan Armed Forces are well aware of Taliban top commanders and their locations and are not sharing this “vital” info with NATO and Western forces present in Afghanistan. So, once again, we dive headfirst into the fact that while Pakistan has proven time and time again that we are strongly against Taliban and extremist forces, we are once again labeled as giving safe haven to enemies.
What NATO and such reports fail to notice is the fact that they are not the only ones who are fighting against Taliban. Over here in Pakistan, we have suffered the most casualties of their brutality and unjustified attacks against are Armed Forces and civilians. Once again, I am afraid to say, that the political parties and especially the ones in power are doing nothing on such allegations. The only noteworthy response comes from our Foreign Minister. She said such reports were allegations and can be “dismissed”. Read carefully. Can be dismissed. Not should be dismissed! Such tame replies after such dire accusations cannot go on to change international impression and opinion on the matter. More noteworthy is the fact that the Prime Minister, President has not even bothered to comment on this. Apparently they have better things to do.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, however, did call it frivolous. The point here is such allegations should be met with immediate and strong disapproval from all walks of life. As a Pakistani, I don’t want my leaders to repeat weak and lame lines in front of the international media. I want them to condemn such reports in the strongest way possible.
And for another thing, when will this blame game stop? When will NATO and its allies start trusting Pakistan over this issue? When will Afghan President stop accusing Pakistan for every one of its problem? The answer is never. Not unless such accusations are met with the strongest reaction. One of anger and condemn. From everyone in power. From top to bottom everyone has to realize that such accusations are a direct attack on our sovereignty and for everything we have sacrificed with the war on terror. At times like these, our leaders should remember all the brave, young souls of our Army, Navy, Air Force, FC, Rangers and Police, who gave up their lives to protect us and our homeland. Until then, such accusations and allegations will continue and will only grow in size and nastiness.
